Various Swieqi Chess Club members were actively playing chess events locally and internationally. The club we would like to highlight a number of achievements by its members in these events.

The Malta national team in the open section at the recently held Chess Olympiads in Budapest, included two members of the Swieqi Chess Club. CM Colin Pace and Robert Novak, played on board 1 and 3 respectively for the team, and having good performances at 2135 and 2127 respectively. Robert Novak also managed to obtain the Candidate Master (CM) title.

The club had a good number of members competing in the Malta Championship, Seniors Championship and also in a parallel tournament held at the same period.
CM Robert Novak, CM Colin Pace and Matthew Portelli played in the Malta Championship Finals (final 6 of the Malta championship), and finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. The achievement of Matthew Portelli, at the age of 12, is remarkable.
In the Seniors Championship, club member Mario Psaila won the event jointly with Conrad Thake. Ron Sammut and Stephen Busuttil Naudi also participated in the event.
In the parallel tournament, four club members participated: Andre Gauci, David Gauci, John Refalo and Leo Lin. Great results were achieved by the two young players John Refalo and Leo Lin who shared third place - with John Refalo getting the 3rd place due to better tie-break.
International FIDE Rating by young members
Our club gives a lot of importance to young players and we are very proud of three players who are eights years old or younger who achieved an official FIDE rating, in the blitz category. Thomas Azzopardi, Nikol Borg and Ozgun Ozsoy all achi eved FIDE ratings in blitz of 1464, 1416 and 1440 respectively.
Following some research, we believe that Nikol Borg is the youngest player on the MLT flag to have got a FIDE rating. Nikol got his rating in the 1st September at the age of 6 years and 244 days.
The Swieqi Chess Club is proud to have these players as members of the club!
Well done for all these achievements and looking forward for more!
