The Swieqi Chess Club Kids Rapids returned with the first events for the new year on 11th January. As usual two events were held for Under 12s and Under 18s respectively, with a nice total turnout of 26 young players.
The Under 12s fielded 14 players, with two players tying on first place on 4 points but the winner being Tristan Jes Scicluna who won this event for the first time on tie-break. Jacques Borg Barthet tied on first place but took the second place on tie-break. Another two players tied for third place, Jamie Abela Palmer and Lucas Chong. Using the tie-break systems, Jamie Abela Palmer took the third prize.

The Under 18s was attended by 12 players playing this FIDE rated event. The top places were well contested by a number of young but very strong players, all members of the Swieqi Chess Club - something that makes the club very proud. Vince Kosik won the event on 4.5 points, half a point ahead of Matthew Portelli, who scored four points losing only to the winner. John Refalo took third place on 3.5 points.
